Travel
Furry Takeover is a camping style convention located in the mountains and will rely on your transportation in order to get around the resort for different events.
The address for the event is 300 Woods Road, Fontana Dam, North Carolina 28733. There are also several written directions and maps located on Fontana Dam's website.
The Tail of the Dragon
Tail of the Dragon is not part of the convention, but part of the resort and is at your own risk. Please observe all state and federal laws applicable to safe operation of a motor vehicle when using these, and any other roads, streets, or interstate highways.
Designated US 129, the road is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest with no intersecting roads or driveways to hamper your travel. With 318 curves in just 11 miles, it is considered “the destination” for thousands of motorcycle and sports car fans, and is just one of many incredible roads in the area.
Safety First
While the Tail of the Dragon and the other roads like it are a lot of fun, these roads can also be extremely dangerous. Some of our attendees were discussing safety on the road in our telegram chat and we though it would be a great idea to include some of their tips here.
- In addition to the many sharp curves, the road can be windy so always be alert
- Many turns are too tight to know if there is oncoming traffic or how fast they are going. Many motorcyclists will get close to the line on some turns. Do not, for any reason, cross the center line.
- If someone ends up behind you, use the next safe pull out to let them by.
- Be cautious and drive at a speed you feel comfortable with. It's not a race track, even if some people try to treat it like one. Don't feel pressured to go faster than you're comfortable with.
