Fontana Reservoir occupies a site of particular splendor deep in the Great Smoky Mountains. Fishing, boating and swimming are all popular at Fontana, but it is perhaps most appreciated by wilderness hikers and campers.

This memorial was established to honor Junaluska, an important Cherokee leader during the 1800s. He and members of his family are buried here, and the site includes a museum which displays both Cherokee artifacts and contemporary Cherokee artwork. There is also a medicine plant trail at the site.
